Business Trips for McLeods
Visit to Tea Garden
It looks as if, as soon as John arrived in India on November 2nd 1924, he was sent out by McLeods to see the tea gardens at Chuapara in Assam, to familiarise himself with one of the enterprises that he would be working with – Tea. Compared to other later visits, this is a full photographic record and may reflect his excitement at being in India.
John’s Tour of Inspection – October 1928
McLeods had substantial interests in railways in Bengal. Just eight weeks before his death, John was sent on a tour of McLeods railway stations to inspect their accounts and had his own “special coach”. It looks as if the coach has a heraldic shield on the door announcing that this is a company coach.
Did he get jaundice on this trip? We will never know.
